Our ComTEC Equipment Library offers short-term loans (1-3 months) of speech-generating devices and computer access equipment for children and adults with disability. Search for what you need, generate a quote for the NDIS, and submit a referral to request a hire.
It can be challenging to know what communication technology is going to work best for a particular person, even for experienced OTs and speech pathologists! You can use the ComTEC library to trial technology before purchasing or submitting an AT request.

Support Packages
We also have a range of support packages available to suit your needs, which includes ongoing support for your primary therapist and team during the equipment hire. Through the support packages, we walk with you every step of the way to customise or adjust equipment to suit you, so you get the most out of it.

What is the cost for hire?
The cost per month for each hire is listed on the product page. Packaging and delivery is an additional cost.
iPads, laptops and dynamic devices are setup by our ComTEC therapists which incurs a one hour setup fee. Setup can include, but is not limited to:
Removal of all personal information from the previous hirer
- Updating firmware
- Loading the iTunes account
- Purchasing and / or downloading and updating apps requested for the hire
- Signing into the relevant account for each app including subscriptions
- Loading voices onto the app and ensuring that the voices are updated
- Selecting and loading the various page sets requested for each app
What are the items on my invoice?
Each invoice will list the equipment included in the hire plus packaging and delivery fee and any setup fees.
Please note that on the invoice, the following line items will be listed for NDIS:
Equipment hire:
- Core Supports - Consumables budget
- 'Low Cost AT For Communication Or Cognitive Support'
Packaging and Delivery:
- Core Supports - Consumables budget
- 'Disability-Related Health Equipment and Consumables - Set Up/Training'
Set up by SP/OT (devices with software e.g ipads/laptops):
- Capacity Building Supports - Improved Daily Living (CB Daily Activity)
- 'Assessment, recommendation, therapy and/or training (Incl. AT) – Other Therapy'
OR
- 'Capacity building supports for early childhood interventions – Other Professional'
You can search our library database for the equipment and software you might need. If you’re looking for something specific and it’s not there, contact us and we’ll get it for you!
Once you’ve got an idea of what you might like to try, complete our ComTEC Equipment Library form and we will send a quote first and then, once the quote is accepted, send out the item and arrange the training and / or support package.
Depending on the item, the wait time to receive it is likely to be 2-3 weeks. We will send it to you via courier. We can send anywhere in Australia. You can borrow as many items as you like!
Our hire costs are listed for one month however you can hire anywhere between 1-3 months or longer if needed. You can extend your hire if it’s going well or if it’s not right, you can simply return it and request something different.
A monthly fee is charged for each hire which can be funded from your NDIS plan, insurance, or aged care package. The monthly hire fee depends on the item, and is listed in the library on each product page.
